– Organizing to Support Advocacy for Post-acute Brain Rehabilitation and Persons Served through Collaborative Outcomes Research

The Foundation to Advance Brain Rehabilitation (FABR) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance brain rehabilitation through scientific and strategic analysis of industry-wide data. FABR was launched by Founding Members (Learning Services, On With Life, Progressive Rehabilitation Associates, Pate Rehabilitation, ReMed, Shepherd Center) in July 2020. Following short 2-3 week inpatient rehabilitation stays for acquired brain injury, rehabilitation for complex activities of daily living, behavior, cognition and other limitations to community participation is often accomplished through post-acute organizations represented by FABR members in residential, skilled nursing, group home, outpatient and day treatment facilities, and the home and community of the person served. This presentation describes the development and organization of FABR and the de-identified database that member organizations will use to analyze pooled data. Research processes to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of specific post-acute program types and initial outcome data are presented.
